My Inspiring Experience at Rock Steady Boxing Coach Con 2025

I recently attended Coach Con 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana — the birthplace of Rock Steady Boxing (RSB). This annual convention unites affiliate coaches worldwide to improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s disease through our proven, non-contact boxing fitness program.

For me, Coach Con was a powerful opportunity to connect with RSB coaches from around the globe, participate in educational sessions, build skills, and share experiences within the Parkinson’s community. All while having fun and making lasting friendships.

Attending this convention was truly inspiring. It strengthened my dedication to helping individuals with Parkinson’s fight back through boxing-based fitness and community support.

The Electric Atmosphere at the NCAA Hall of Champions

Coach Con was held at the NCAA Hall of Champions, a dream venue for any sports enthusiast. The atmosphere was electric as Rock Steady coaches gathered, united by a shared passion for empowering people with Parkinson’s.

Everything was organized perfectly. Registration ran smoothly, volunteers guided us to breakout sessions and workshops, and the entire event felt extremely welcoming. And yes, cocktails, great food, and a new Coach Con T-shirt made the weekend even better!

Educational Workshops and Hands-On Training

Coach Con 2025 featured dynamic workshops on advanced training techniques, the latest research in Parkinson’s care, and ways to foster an inclusive, motivating environment for every stage of Parkinson’s, including Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease (YOPD).

I especially enjoyed sessions on adapting workouts for clients with varying mobility levels — tools I’ve already started using in our Group Classes and Zoom Classes.

The presenters, neurologists, physical therapists, veteran coaches, and even participants living with Parkinson’s disease offered a well-rounded view of effective coaching. We even tried Muay Thai training for Parkinson’s, learning how to take balance challenges to the next level.

The Power of Connection and Community

One of the most memorable parts of Coach Con was meeting and learning from other coaches. Sharing experiences, challenges, and successes reminded me how strong the Rock Steady Boxing community truly is.

Collaborative discussions sparked new ideas for outreach and engagement in my own program at Rock Steady Boxing VC | LA. I left with new mentors, contacts, and lifelong friends. Individuals, like me, equally passionate about helping others thrive.

Inspiration from Kristy Rose Follmar & Todd Vogt

The keynote speakers were phenomenal — Kristy Rose Follmar and Todd Vogt.

Kristy Rose, a former IBA Super Flyweight World Champion and the founder of Rock Steady Boxing, is one of my heroes. Her ability to motivate both fighters and coaches is unmatched. I deeply respect her not only as a world champion boxer but as a woman who built a program changing millions of lives every day.

Todd, diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s in 2018, represented the U.S. in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games in the mixed double sculls event. He continues to inspire as a top athlete and motivational speaker, proving that you can be young, fit, and successful with Parkinson’s disease. Especially with Rock Steady Boxing’s scientifically proven method.

Lessons That Strengthen Purpose

Hearing from RSB’s founders and participants whose lives have been transformed reaffirmed why our work matters so much. These stories of resilience and hope remind me that as coaches, we have the power to change lives — not just for people with Parkinson’s, but for their families as well.

Their gratitude for our commitment to the gym, our fighters, and the mission of Rock Steady Boxing made me even prouder to be part of something bigger than myself.

Personal Growth and Renewed Motivation

This convention was more than professional development, it was personal growth. I left Indianapolis feeling more confident, equipped with evidence-based practices, and re-energized to continue making a difference.

The encouragement from my Rock Steady Boxing family reminded me exactly why I chose this path. To help others fight back, regain strength, and find hope.

A Match Made in Heaven

By pure luck, the Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight of the century took place during our convention! Watching it alongside Kristy Rose, professional boxers, and fellow RSB coaches was unforgettable.

Just as pro boxers train for victory in the ring, we train our Rock Steady Boxers for victory in life. Improving balance, strength, flexibility, mental focus, and confidence. It truly is a “match” made in heaven.

Coach Con 2025 exceeded every expectation. I returned home with new education, deeper connections, and a renewed sense of purpose.
