Honoring Our Fighters: A 2025 Holiday Letter from RSB VC/LA

Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA holiday letter honoring our fighters

Dear Rock Steady VC/LA Boxer

There’s an old Yiddish saying. Actually, most Yiddish sayings are old. You don’t hear a lot of new sayings coming out in Yiddish. But we digress. We could take another whole sentence spelling it out in Yiddish, or we could provide a simple translation, which goes something like this: “Man plans…God laughs.”

Last year, around the end of November, we were putting the finishing edits on our Coach group photo for our holiday card. This year, around the end of November, Coach Lisa was recovering from a legendary case of laryngitis, and Coach Yvette was running from gym to gym keeping everything under control. Then, all of a sudden—faster than Santa’s sleigh—it was almost the middle of December, with just enough time to plan our annual Holiday class and after-party. There was no time left for coach photos to be edited and holiday cards to go out in the mail.

But, as Coach Lisa always says, “Every problem is an opportunity.”

The Opportunity: Our First Holiday Letter.

We could certainly say a lot about 2025. We could wax poetic about the growth and achievements of Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA. We could remind you how wonderful our coaches are and reiterate the many transformative benefits of our scientifically proven Parkinson’s-fighting program. We could comment on the ever-changing world outside our gym doors and make goals for the coming year.

We could say something like this:

The best thing about Rock Steady Boxing VC/LA in 2025—and every year—is YOU.

We could not be more proud of YOU. It’s YOU who have pushed yourself to be here with us and your fellow fighters. It’s YOU who have pushed yourself to get up out of bed on mornings when moving may not seem possible; to get yourself to the gym by whatever means necessary; and to take control over your body and mind, one punch at a time in our Group Classes.

Some of you even overcome geographical challenges—and ongoing technical issues—to join us through our Zoom Classes.

  • Sometimes Parkinson’s is scary, but you keep moving.
  • Sometimes there are tears, but you keep moving.
  • Sometimes you fall down, but you get back up—and you keep moving.

YOU continue to FIGHT BACK.

It takes will, guts, determination, and discipline to keep fighting. That’s why you’re a BOXER, in every sense of the word.

This holiday season, we honor and celebrate YOU. We hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on your accomplishments in 2025 and look forward to new possibilities in 2026. Be as proud of yourselves as your coaches are of you.

We wish you health, happiness, hope, and joy this season—and an abundant new year.

Now stop reading, and start punching!

With gratitude,

Coach Lisa & Coach Yvette
